3PEAK Releases High-speed Analog Switch TPD160221 with a Signal Switching Rate of up to 16 Gbps

2024-06-05

3PEAK (Stock Code: 688536), a semiconductor supplier focusing on high-performance analog devices and embedded processors, has launched the high-speed analog switch TPD160221.

The TPD160221 high-speed analog switch features a 3.3 V power supply, bidirectional low-latency 2:1 selection, and a switching speed of 16 Gbps. It is compatible with high-speed serial interface signals such as PCIe 3.0/4.0, DP 1.3/1.4, and USB 3.1/3.2.

The TPD160221 can be widely applied in various devices and scenarios, including laptops, servers, switches, routers, optical transport networks (OTNs), medical equipment, and wireless infrastructure.

Advantages:

1. Flexible use with a low channel-to-channel skew of 15 ps

In certain devices, multiple high-speed switches are often configured into multiple channels. However, there can be significant differences in skew between different chips. The TPD160221 integrates two bidirectional differential channels and 4:2 switches, enabling the configuration of 6:3 or 8:4 high-speed switches. This makes it suitable for applications such as USB 3 and DP 1.3, where it can achieve a channel-to-channel skew as low as 15 ps.

2. High-speed signal switching rate up to 16 Gbps

Current mainstream switch devices typically only achieve data transmission rates of up to 8.1 Gbps, which falls short of the high-speed signal switching requirement of 16 Gbps. This limitation affects high-speed signal transmission applications such as PCIe 4.0. In contrast, the TPD160221 realizes a high-speed signal switching rate of up to 16 Gbps, better aligning with current market demands. The eye diagram and jitter performance of the TPD160221 when transmitting 16 Gbps signals are shown in Figures 1 and 2, respectively.

3. Enhances system integrity: low insertion loss, low return loss, low off-state isolation

The TPD160221 exhibits an insertion loss of -2.1 dB, a return loss of -12 dB, and an off-state isolation of -10 dB at 8 GHz. It boasts a bandwidth of 12 GHz, effectively ensuring the quality of high-speed signal transmission and effectively isolating mutual interference between different channels.

4. VCC anti-backflow feature

Currently, high-speed switches both in China and internationally generally lack VCC anti-backflow capabilities. If there is voltage present on the high-speed switch channels or control signal lines within the circuit, VCC backflow may lead to unintended switch activation. The TPD160221 is equipped with a feature to prevent backflow from the high-speed switch channels and control signals to the VCC. When the device is not receiving power, it ensures that the switch is not inadvertently activated, thereby ensuring the correct shutdown of the channels.

5. Support for switching low-speed single-ended logic signals

The TPD160221 is not only applicable for switching high-speed differential signals but also allows each differential pair channel to be independently used for switching low-speed single-ended signals, thereby enabling an 8-to-4 switching function.

Typical applications:

The TPD160221 features two sets of bidirectional differential channels and a 4:2 switch function, supporting 2:1 multiplexing/demultiplexing. It offers excellent transmission performance and is suitable for various high-speed serial interface signals. A typical application of the TPD160221 is illustrated in the figure below.
